Ethical Issues in Health Services Management
By Gisela Koufus, CE Provider 2003-06-10 | Objectives | Pre Test | Course Material | Post Test | PROGRAM OVERVIEW This program is designed to review personal ethics and administrative ethical issues, and to suggest a methodology for solving the problems these issues raise. Philosophies, principles, and codes of ethics are reviewed, and ways of identifying and solving ethical dilemmas are explored. A brief discussion about developing a personal ethic, organizational and mission statements, and some administrative ethical issues is included. The focus of this program is on the responsibility of Nursing Home Administrators to ensure autonomy, privacy, and protection of residents in their facility, as well as their role as a moral agent who leads the health service facility. This program is about integrity in business life. It is about values and the virtues that constitute integrity. It is about practicing ethical behavior because it is the right thing to do - not because a code of ethics says it must be done. (Please note: For ease of reading, patient is used to describe anyone served by the health services organization, and manager is mostly used when referring to the administrator or nurse manager).
