PROGRAM OVERVIEW


Objectives:

At the completion of this program the participant should be able to:

  1. Identify how values are usually shaped.
  2. Briefly define Personal Ethic.
  3. Describe how a health services organization can develop and implement a just policy.
  4. Identify two important views that must be reflected in the philosophy of a facility.
  5. Discuss briefly why ethical dilemmas may occur in a health care facility.
  6. Briefly define ethics.
  7. Discuss briefly the relationship between ethics and the law.
  8. Explain briefly the main focus of the Utilitarian Teleology, Deontology, and Ethics of Care
  9. Respect for Persons -- a principle of an ethical theory -- includes several components. Name the four.
  10. Describe one aspect of beneficence.
  11. Define Nonmaleficence.
  12. Define Rawl's definition of justice.
  13. Explain why Nursing Home Administrators should also be involved in bioethical issues.
  14. List three steps of moral reasoning, which are similar to existing problem-solving methods used by managers.
  15. State why it is important that all staff in a facility is fully familiar with its philosophy
  16. Identify three important characteristics of a successful organization.
  17. List three expectations listed in the Code for Nursing Home Administrators.
  18. List three important rights listed in the residents' Bill of Rights in Long-Term care facilities.
  19. Identify the most commonly reported administrative ethical problem in health services organizations.
  20. Explain briefly why it is important to adopt policies related to acceptance or non-acceptance of gifts in the facility.
